Once you set the date, you should start arranging the bureaucratic issues and the usual procedure is as follows:

1) Couples wishing to get married on the island must obtain permission from the president of the community.

2) Both bride and groom must present the certificate of birth.

3) You need an affirmation that proves that there is no impediment to the marriage.

4) The notification about the marriage must be posted on the bulletin board of the community for 7 days.

5) After the seven days have passed, the couple must get their marriage license from the president of the community.

6) In case a couple has been licensed, certified in their country or region, they do not need to do steps 1,4,5 but must submit an application requesting to be married at the community of Thera. If you come from another country, you are advised to have validated the Greek translation of all necessary legal documents.

*   During the wedding ceremony, two people need to be there as witnesses. For the marriage to be considered as valid, the couple must declare it no later than 40 days after the wedding ceremony to the community of Thera.
